Why it matters for golf
This strings together the swing's core skills: load the hips, rotate, and send force up the chain to a finish. It trains the hips and trunk to work in sequence under load, without leaking posture along the way.
Coaching cues
- Load the hips, then rotate. Ground first.
- Keep the bell close on the clean.
- Rotate through the hips, then punch to lockout.
- Finish tall and stacked, not leaned back.
Common faults
- Spinning the shoulders early and leaving the hips behind.
- Curling the clean instead of driving with the legs.
- Arching the back to finish the press.
