Why it matters for golf
Squat strength is how a golfer pushes into the ground, and ground force is where speed starts. The goblet hold also builds an upright, braced trunk and opens the hips, which supports posture at address and through the swing.
Coaching cues
- Hold the bell tight to the chest, elbows down.
- Sit down between the heels, not back onto them.
- Chest tall the whole way down.
- Push the whole foot through the floor to stand.
Common faults
- Knees caving in out of the bottom.
- Heels lifting as depth increases.
- Chest dropping and the bell drifting away from the body.
