Why it matters for golf
Seated hip work targets the glutes and deep rotators from a position almost anyone can get into. Freeing the hips lets the pelvis rotate both directions in the swing. Golfers who lose hip rotation usually pay for it in the lower back.
Coaching cues
- Sit tall before you move into the stretch.
- Ease in slow and exhale as you settle.
- Keep the spine long. Hinge from the hips if you fold.
- Hold each side for several calm breaths.
Common faults
- Slumping through the spine.
- Forcing the hip past comfort.
- Rushing the hold.
