Mobility
Raised Prayer
Prayer stretch with the arms elevated, opening the lats and thoracic spine that a full overhead turn depends on.
mobility
Why it matters for golf
The lats tie the arms to the lower back, and when they are short they choke the backswing. A raised prayer position lengthens the lats and extends the thoracic spine together. That buys arm elevation and a deeper turn without the lower back cheating.
Coaching cues
- Reach long through the arms.
- Let the chest drop while the arms stay long.
- Exhale into the stretch and hold for several breaths.
- Keep the neck relaxed.
Common faults
- Shrugging instead of lengthening.
- Arching only through the lower back.
- Rushing out of the hold.
