Why it matters for golf
Slamming off a step trains the ground-up sequence the downswing runs on. The legs create momentum, the trunk transfers it, and the arms release it. It also builds the trunk strength needed to control that force.
Coaching cues
- Step, plant, then slam through the ball.
- Get the ball high before you bring it down.
- Snap the trunk down, arms follow.
- Land in a strong, balanced finish.
Common faults
- Slamming with arms only.
- Rounding the back at the bottom.
- Losing balance through the finish.
