The side plank. Lateral core strength and hip stability, two quiet ingredients of a stable swing.

Why it matters for golf
The side plank builds the obliques and the deep hip stabilizers on the down side, muscles that control side bend and keep the pelvis level in the swing. It is also a well proven low back protector.
Coaching cues
- Elbow under the shoulder, feet stacked or staggered.
- Lift the hips into one straight line.
- Push the floor away and stay long.
- Hold quality, not just time.
Common faults
- Hips sagging toward the floor.
- Rolling the chest forward or back.
