    Push Ups

The standard push up. Pressing strength and trunk stiffness in one movement, a base for upper body power.

    Why it matters for golf

Push ups build the chest, shoulders, and triceps while forcing the trunk to hold a plank, so golfers get pressing strength and core stiffness in the same rep. That combination supports the arms' job of transferring trunk speed into the club.

    Coaching cues

    • Hands under shoulders, body in one line.
    • Lower the chest with the elbows about 45 degrees.
    • Press the floor away.
    • Squeeze the glutes the whole set.

    Common faults

    • Sagging hips or a poked forward chin.
    • Half reps that skip the bottom.
