Why it matters for golf
Chops train the trunk to rotate with force while posture stays controlled. That is separation, the swing's speed source. Working both directions also builds the deceleration strength that protects the back in the follow-through.
Coaching cues
- Turn from the trunk, not just the arms.
- Keep the arms long and let the trunk drive the move.
- Control the finish, don't let momentum win.
- Train both directions.
Common faults
- All arms, no trunk rotation.
- Losing posture as speed goes up.
- Only training the dominant side.
