Barbell Sumo Deadlift
Wide stance deadlift with the hands inside the knees. Builds hip strength through a more upright pull.
hinge
Why it matters for golf
The wide stance keeps the torso more upright and shifts the work to the hips and inner thighs. It is a strong hinge option for players who cannot reach a conventional setup with a flat back, and it still builds the pulling strength the DRVN deadlift test measures.
Coaching cues
- Wide stance, toes out, shins vertical.
- Grip inside the knees, chest up.
- Spread the floor as you push.
- Finish tall with the glutes.
Common faults
- Knees collapse inward off the floor.
- Hips rise early and the back pulls the load.
- Yanking the bar with slack in the arms.
