squat
Why it matters for golf
Squatting trains the hips and legs to produce force against the ground, and ground force is where swing speed starts. It also builds the leg strength that keeps posture stable deep into a round.
Coaching cues
- Set the bar on the upper back and brace before you move.
- Sit down between the hips, not just back.
- Keep the whole foot pressed into the floor.
- Drive up hard and keep the chest tall.
Common faults
- Knees cave in on the way up.
- Chest drops and the bar drifts over the toes.
- Depth gets cut short as the load goes up.
