Why it matters for golf
Pressing strict, with no leg drive, builds shoulder strength and a trunk that resists arching under load. That trunk control shows up in golf as a more stable spine through the swing and better durability overhead.
Coaching cues
- Squeeze the glutes and brace before the press.
- Press in a straight line, move the head back slightly.
- Finish with the bar stacked over the mid foot.
- Lower under control.
Common faults
- Ribs flare and the low back arches.
- Bar path drifts forward.
- Sneaking in leg drive when it gets heavy.
