    Why it matters for golf

Pressing strict, with no leg drive, builds shoulder strength and a trunk that resists arching under load. That trunk control shows up in golf as a more stable spine through the swing and better durability overhead.

    Coaching cues

    • Squeeze the glutes and brace before the press.
    • Press in a straight line, move the head back slightly.
    • Finish with the bar stacked over the mid foot.
    • Lower under control.

    Common faults

    • Ribs flare and the low back arches.
    • Bar path drifts forward.
    • Sneaking in leg drive when it gets heavy.
