Why it matters for golf
The power clean is a full body expression of speed and force. It teaches the legs and hips to accelerate a load fast, which carries straight into how hard a golfer can push into the ground in the downswing.
Coaching cues
- Push the floor away to break the bar off the ground.
- Stay patient, then snap the hips past the knees.
- Pull under and catch on the shoulders.
- Elbows up fast, stand to finish.
Common faults
- Hips shoot up first and the back does the work.
- Bar loops out away from the body.
- Slow elbows on the catch.
