Why it matters for golf
The brakes drill trains deceleration, swinging fast and then stopping the stick quickly. The ability to slow the club is part of the ability to swing it faster safely, and it protects the body as speed climbs.
Coaching cues
- Swing with real speed, do not ease into it.
- Brake the stick where the protocol calls for it.
- Stay tall and balanced while stopping.
Common faults
- Slowing down early instead of braking.
- Losing posture during the stop.
